Small Pratincole at Laem Phak Bia salt pans, and three Red-necked Phalarope at Pak Thale.

An Eyebrowed Thrush was seen at Chiang Saen Lake, as well as a male Red-crested Pochard observed when flushed by fishermen.

A Slaty-legged Crake flew into the apartment window at Kata, Phuket. The bird was photographed in the shower (right) and after recovery was released at Laem Mum Nai on 29 Dec.

A major day's birding around Chiang Saen produced female Greater Scaup, two Mallard, Long-toed Stint, an immature Hen Harrier and Rufous-winged Buzzard.

At Khao Nor Chuchi a few morning hours produced two or three Orange-headed Thrush, Siberian Blue Robin, Chinese Blue Flycatcher and Ferruginous Babbler. Birds along Krabi Mangrove Walkway included Two-barred Warbler, Streak-breasted Woodpecker and Eastern Crowned Warbler. A single Common Buzzard B. b. vulpinus with Eastern Buzzard at Laem Mum Nai, Phuket.

Early morning at Sa Nang Manora Forest Park held a single Orange-headed Thrush. An all day session on the Krabi mudflats at did not produce anything of major significance. Small number of Great Knot, a single Sanderling, Grey Heron and Purple Heron.

A visit to Nong Lom had no sign of previously reported Red-crested Pochard, and only about 20 Pied Harrier and Eastern Marsh Harrier at the roost - well down on previous years.

Crested Bunting around the Ban Nor Lae army camp on Doi Ang Khang. Chestnut-eared Bunting on rice paddies around Fang. Yellow-breasted Bunting, Little Bunting and Chestnut Bunting at Doi Lang. Flock of Spot-winged Grosbeak at Fang Hot Spring.

A day trip to Chae Son National Park produced Rufous-winged Buzzard, Sapphire Flycatcher, Slaty-backed Flycatcher, Plumbeous Water Redstart, Rosy Minivet and Slaty-backed Forktail.

Three Spoon-billed Sandpiper at Pak Thale, plus Chinese Egret, White-faced Plover, Pomarine Jaeger and Arctic Skua at Laem Phak Bia sand spit. Slaty-breasted Rail at the Mangrove Research Station as well as a Mangrove Whistler there.

A visit to Krung Ching, Khao Luang National Park produced Maroon-breasted Philentoma, Rail-babbler and a pair of Pin-tailed Parrotfinch.

At Laem Pakarang at least one of the Crab-plover was still present, plus two Malaysian Plover.

A White-cheeked Starling was seen at Khok Kham.

At Bueng Boraphet Freckle-breasted Woodpecker, Watercock, Brown-headed Gull and 50 White-shouldered Starling.

At least four Far Eastern Curlew at Pak Thale, and tens of Nordmann's Greenshank and Black-faced Spoonbill on Laem Phak Bia salt pans. The sand spit at Laem Phak Bia held two Mongolian Gull, 12 Heuglin's Gull, a few Malaysian Plover, a single Chinese Egret, and a passing Arctic Skua, but no sign of previously reported Pallas's Gull. Additionally six Spoon-billed Sandpiper were reported by Mr. Daeng, the boatman at Pak Thale.

Sightings from an earlier trip to Mae Ping National Park included a Malayan Night Heron feeding in the damp forest, 15 Small Minivet, plus at least 50 Grey-headed Parakeet and 80 Blossom-headed Parakeet near Thung Kik campsite.

A couple of days at a very quiet, almost dead, Kaeng Krachan produced Wreathed Hornbill and Great Hornbill at the top. Streak-breasted Woodpecker on the approach road. Pale Blue Flycatcher, Ratchet-tailed Treepie and Rufous-browed Flycatcher around km 27.5.

White-throated Rock Thrush still present near HQ at Khao Yai, with at least 10 Long-tailed Broadbill along the Loop Trail. A few Blossom-headed Parakeet mixed in with the Red-breasted Parakeet toward dusk behind the Juldis Hotel.

Pied Harrier and Eastern Marsh Harrier numbers at the Chiang Saen roost are around 200 individuls. An immature Hen Harrier was seen there at the end of November but not since.

The infrequently visited Doi Phu Kha had Emerald Cuckoo, Grey-faced Buzzard, Pale Blue Flycatcher, Small Niltava, Black-eared Shrike-babbler and Whiskered Yuhina.

A couple of Sapphire Flycatcher, Pale Blue Flycatcher and Baikal Bush Warbler seen along the entrance road to Chae Son National Park. In the upper levels of Doi Pui National Park a female White-bellied Redstart and a single Rufous-gorgeted Flycatcher. Also several Scaly Thrush and Eyebrowed Thrush.

A visit to Chiang Saen area held the usual wintering ducks including Northern Shoveler and Ferruginous Duck. The nearby Nam Kham had Blunt-winged Warbler, Jerdon's Bush Chat and Chestnut-crowned Bush Warbler.

The fields at Thaton held at least 20 Yellow-breasted Bunting and a single Chestnut-eared Bunting and Pallas's Grasshopper Warbler. A female Jerdon's Bush Chat was seen on a late visit to Nam Kham at Chiang Saen.

A couple of days on Doi Lang recorded White-gorgeted Flycatcher, Rufous-gorgeted Flycatcher, Small Niltava, Himalayan Cutia, Pin-tailed Parrotfinch and Eyebrowed Wren-Babbler. A Peregrine at the summit.

Two days at Ang Khang recorded Daurian Redstart near Ban Luang Resort and along the Burma Road, where a good group of Grey-headed Parrotbill was also found. At least 30 Spot-winged Grosbeak at a seeding tree along the Km 21 Trail as well a Rufous-gorgeted Flycatcher. Down the Arunthai Road at km 31 a female White-bellied Redstart. A night walk along the Mae Phu Trail had only a single distant calling Hodgson's Frogmouth. Night birds everywhere seemed totally silent.

From Phuket, a record of Eurasian Wryneck at Muang Mai - potentially a first record for the Peninsula. Also Booted Eagle at Thalang Battlefields.
