Also 1 Milky Stork, 1,200 Great Knot, 1 Red Knot, 11 Terek Sandpiper, 450 Eurasian Whimbrel, 30 Bar-tailed Godwit, 1 Asian Dowitcher and 2 Spot-billed Pelican. Also no sign of either of the thick-knees. At Laem Phak Bia, no a sign of either stone-curlew or Milky Stork. No snipe or painted-snipe either at Kings Project - too disturbed. Three Asian Dowitcher at Mahachai. A nice collection of records from the south covering the last couple of weeks. On 14 Aug at Phang-nga, 3 Black-thighed Falconet, 1 Chestnut-bellied Malkoha, 2 Buff-rumped Woodpecker, a Black-and-Red Broadbill and a single Mangrove Pitta. On 22-23 Aug at Ratchaphrapha Dam, Khao Sok NP, 8 Oriental Hobby, 3 White-bellied Sea Eagle, 2 Grey-headed Fish Eagle, 1 Buffy Fish Owl, 5 White-crowned Hornbill, 20 Bushy-crested Hornbill, pair Helmeted Hornbill, and Banded Pitta heard. On 25-26 Aug at Sri Phang-nga and Phang-nga Mangroves, 4 Grey Wagtail, Forest Wagtail, 2 Chestnut-naped Forktail, 2 Blyth's Hawk-Eagle, 1 Buffy Fish Owl, 2 Brown-winged Kingfisher, 2 Ruddy Kingfisher, 4 Chestnut-bellied Malkoha and Mangrove Pitta heard. Report from Mae Wong; pair of Rusty-naped Pitta close to Chong Yen - have been coming to worms for the last two months and gave amazing views.
Also Rufous-throated Partridge a couple of times, both Speckled Piculet and White-browed Piculet, pair of Kalij Pheasant, Spot-necked Babbler and Brown-crowned Scimitar Babbler. There is also a Leopard Cat coming to food put out by the rangers at Chong Yen each evening. A t Mae Ping, 10+ Grey-headed Parakeet and at least 6 calling Oriental Scops Owl. At Chiang Dao temple area, 1 Pin-tailed Green Pigeon, 1 Rufous-winged Buzzard, 4 Collared Babbler, 2 Eyebrowed Wren-Babbler, 2 Streaked Wren-Babbler and a Red-headed Trogon. The ridiculously tame "wild" Silver Pheasant still visiting Chiang Dao temple. |

At Chiang Dao Hot Springs, 2 Pin-tailed Parrotfinch. At Chiang Saen, along the Mekong a few Black-faced Bunting and plenty of Small Pratincole. No sign of any River Lapwing. At Mae Taeng Irrigation Project, 6 Crested Bunting, Freckle-breasted Woodpecker, Wire-tailed Swallow and Yellow-legged Buttonquail. At Huay Mai Teang Reservaoir, 4 Eurasian Coot (uncommon here). No evidence of Small Pratincoles which were here in numbers (100-150) by this time last year. Several Savanna Nightjar at dusk. At Khao Takhrao, Gargeny and Northern Pintail with a Northern Shoveler and a Eurasian Wigeon. No sign of Knob-billed Duck. At Pak Thale and Laem Phak Bia, 7 Spoon-billed Sandpiper, 27 Nordmann's Greenshank and 37 Pied Avocet (a record?). |

From Chiang Saen, 2 Mallard, 3 Wigeon, and 1 Northern Shoveler. At the harrier roost a worryingly low tally of only 30 Pied Harrier and Eastern Marsh Harrier, as well as a Greater Spotted Eagle coming to roost in adjacent trees. [Another birder reported 2 female Baer's Pochard]. At Kaeng Krachan (over the last three days), 2 Crested Jayshrike, White fronted Scops Owl, Red-bearded Bee-eater, Blue Pitta, Great Slaty Woodpecker, Streak throated Woodpecker, a few Streak-breasted Woodpecker and a Scaly Thrush. From the temple at Chiang Dao, Streaked Wren-Babbler, Red-headed Trogon, Pin-tailed Green Pigeon, Wedge-tailed Green Pigeon, Violet Cuckoo and Green-legged Partridge. |

A disspointing visit to Nong Pla Lai for eagles where only a single Greater Spotted Eagle in the afternoon. Others reported a single Steppe Eagle and an Imperial Eagle during the day. Also a Black-headed Ibis seen late afternoon. Also at Pak Thale, 2 Black-faced Spoonbill, but no Spoon-billed Sandpiper. And from Laem Phak Bia a single Spoon-billed Sandpiper, 1 White-faced Plover, 2 Malaysian Plover and 2 Chinese Egret. |

A short exploratory visit to Thap Lan National Park produced a single White-rumped Falcon, 3 White-browed Fantail, 6 Brown Prinia, 3 Black-headed Woodpecker and a few Blossom-headed Parakeet. From Kaeng Krachan Yellow-vented Green Pigoen, a pair of Plain-pouched Hornbill, and a pair of Olive-backed Woodpecker. Photographs of the "Lesser Shortwing" that has been on display at Khun Daeng's on Doi Inthanon the past couple of weeks show the bird to be a brown male Himalayan Shortwing. A visit to Nong Pla Lai had 40 Black-eared Kite, 6 Eastern Marsh Harrier, 4 Greater Spotted Eagle, 2 Steppe Eagle, 1 Eastern Imperial Eagle, 1 Booted Eagle and a single Black-headed Ibis. |

Glossy Ibis reported by local at Chiang Saen. Specific location not known. At Khao Yai eight male and a female Siamese Fireback along the radar station road. At Kaeng Krachan, between the campsite and river crossings, were a single Great Slaty Woodpecker, 2 Tickell's Hornbill, at least 7 Orange-breasted Trogon, 3 Black-thighed Falconet, a calling Blue Pitta and 15 Sultan Tit. Other visitors reported a Grey Peacock-Pheasant beyond the last river crossing. |

A half day on Doi Lang had Black-throated Parrotbill, above the upper military checkpoint, plus Buff-barred Warbler and Black Eagle toward to summit. No sign of previously reported Spot-breasted Parrotbill nor any Fire-tailed Sunbird. Older records just in. On 23 Jan, two Spoon-billed Sandpiper at Pak Thale plus five Red-necked Phalarope, two Black-faced Spoonbill and a Black-headed Ibis (per Peter Ericsson et al). At Nong Blah Lai up to 17 Greater Spotted Eagle, 5 Imperial Eagle, 4 Steppe Eagle, 3 Booted Eagle and four Peregrine Falcon. From Khao Yai. One male Blue Pitta, several Siamese Fireback, female Banded Kingfisher, 4 Dusky Broadbill, 2 Banded Broadbill and two Long-tailed Broadbill. No Coral-billed Ground Cuckoo or Eared Pitta. Wat Khao Takhrai area of Phetchburi (just to north of Ban Laem, about 20 km from Pak Thale) held good numbers of duck including 700+ Northern Pintail, 400+ Garganey and 2,000+ Lesser Whistling Duck. Also Black-headed Ibis and three Cotton Pygmy Goose. From Pak Thale - Two Spoon-billed Sandpiper (though earlier five present with probable total of 7 in the area being 5 at Pak Thale and 2 at Laem Phak Bia), two Black-faced Spoonbill and 11 Red-necked Phalarope. Reports of a Little Stint in the area. At Laem Phak Bia a Salty-breasted Rail, 2 Spoon-billed Sandpiper, 22 Avocet, 1 Dunlin, 1 Small Pratincole, 11 Nordmann's Greenshank, 1,200 Great Knot and a leucistic Black-winged Stilt. |
